Girona Flower Festival sees big increase in hotel bookings

Every May sees the centre of Girona being given over to the impressive arrangements for the Girona Flower Festival, with buildings opened up to the public and adorned by hundreds of flowers. This week sees the 58th Girona Flower Festival and the organisers are happy with the number of visitors so far, well up from last year.

Hotels in Girona saw 80 percent occupancy and next weekend all hotels are expected to be full, while trains from Barcelona to Girona are reportedly full to capacity. All these extra visitors are good news for other businesses such as restaurants.

The festival runs from May 11th to 19th but is not for everyone. I’ve been dragged along twice but suffered chronic hay fever from the all the pollen in the air (as a result of my hay fever I really do not like flowers), but the displays are quite impressive all the same.
