The Fundació Dali, the organisation that is responsible for the surrealist artist’s legacy and runs the museums and administers the image rights posted a bumper year in 2012, a year that for many Spaniards has been extremely painful economically.

Ticket sales increased by €400,000 for the three museums at Portlligat, Figueres and Púbol Castle and image rights increased by €350,000 last year to end with a surplus of €4.9 million, which will be spent on buying the artist’s works and upkeep of the museums.

While visitors to the museums increased by almost 2% to around 1.5 million, much of the amount was due to an exhibition in Paris that saw 650,000 visitors.
