Plans to pave Sant Martí d’Empúries on hold until archeological study carried out
February 20, 2013 Leave your thoughtsThe request by l’Escala’s council to pave the main square in Sant Martí d’Empúries has been rejected by Girona’s Heritage Committee, an area that is designated as being of national cultural interest.
The plan was to pave the main square with granite, although gravel would be used near the restaurants. The committee has demanded that an archeological study takes place prior to any work being authorised because of the likelihood of remains being found there.
However, work will be carried out on church that fronts the square, with a new roof in sandstone rather than the more usual slate or curved roof tile.
